Everyday Carry (EDC) Accessories
Living an uncluttered life is ultimately a process of making good decisions on what and how much you buy and accumulate. A lot of "stuff" on the market wets our consumer appetites, making impulse buys difficult to avoid (especially if you like fashion, music, art, food, and gadgets like we do). If you don't make the decision to unclutter, you will end up with a lot of crap. Whether you are buying a wallet, water bottle, pocket tool, coat, bag, car, home, cooler, or consumer electronics, here are some general tips that can help you make things simple:
- Purchase for value: High-quality items may cost more, but they also tend to last longer and provide more satisfaction. Buy what you want and avoid junk at all costs. Ask yourself if both your wants and needs are being met with every purchase.
- Space will fill up, no matter how big or small it is. Restrict space to what is comfortable based on your needs and wants. The Slimmy wallet, for example, limits space for cards and cash, forcing you to only carry what you need. - Purge: The 80/20 rule is a gem. With anything you have, purge what you do not need or that you use only 20% of the time. You will be amazed at all the crap you accumulate that is useless and just taking up space. Constantly evaluate your stuff and donate, recycle or throw out anything that is useless. - Buy multi-functional products. The more you can do with a product the less other products you have to buy. It is as simple as that.
- Think about travel: When making purchases ask yourself if you can travel with it. If you can’t then don’t buy or keep it.
